Ettore Sottsass (1917–2007) was a pioneering architect and designer often called the godfather of Italian design. A longtime consultant for Olivetti, he created iconic pieces such as the Elea 9003 computer and the Valentine typewriter, helping to shape postmodern design through bold, expressive forms that moved beyond strict functionalism. In 1981, he founded the Memphis Group, whose radical use of color, pattern, and unconventional materials redefined contemporary design and cemented his international legacy.
