Born in 1930 in Neuilly, Raba first gained recognition as the winner of the Prix de Rome in 1955 for his bas-relief Guerre et Paix. After time at the Villa Médicis and early sculptural works, he joined the design office at Citroën in the early 1960s under Flamino Bertoni, contributing to projects including early concepts for the Citroën DS facelift with glass-covered headlights. In the mid-1960s he also worked architecturally before turning to lighting design, eventually producing his sculptural rhodoïd luminaires in large numbers for Roche Bobois, where they became iconic decorative pieces.
